Kaili Introduction The
capital city of Guizhou Province lies 190km from Guiyang. The city proper is encircled
by numerous villages, home to minority groups and some pretty countryside. This
is real "festival land" with over 130 festivals taking place each year. Minority
people account for 71 percent of the total population (of the 71 percent, the
Miao make up 61 percent). Although Kaili itself is pretty drab (not helped by
the huge nuclear reactor stationed just outside the town), this is a great area
to base your travels around Guizhou. The climate is mild, the scenery impressive,
ranging from waterfalls to rolling hills, and transportation to the countless
Miao villages is convenient, most are only about 10 km away, including Langde
and Xiangzhigou. |
