Introduction The Yellow
Mountain is probably the most famous Chinese mountain. Located in the southern
part of Anhui Province, it extends across four counties - Shexian, Yixian, Taiping
and Xining. The mountain rose above the earth surface as a result of movement
of the earth's crust over a hundred million years ago. Later they underwent the
erosion of Quaternary glaciation and have gradually become what they are today.
The Yellow Mountain is a marvel: within
an area of 154 square kilometers there are a crowd of peaks, 72 of which have
names indicating the shapes they resemble. Lotus Flower Peak, Bright Summit Peak
and Celestial Capital Peak are the three major ones, all rising above 1,800 meters.
And the fantastic pines, the grotesque rocks, the sea of clouds and the hot springs
are the four major attractions of the Yellow Mountains. Immortalized
in ancient and modern Chinese art, this area of hanging mists, sharply rising
ledges and gnarled pines is of outstanding beauty, and is considered by most Chinese
as an essential tourist destination. Moreover, there are more than 1500 species
of plants, of which trees comprise one third. So the Yellow Mountain occupy an
important place in China's botanical research. Clue:
In fact, there are marvels almost everywhere, especially in the following scenic
areas: Wenquan (Hot Spring), Yuping (Jade Screen), Beihai (North Sea), Yungusi
(Cloud Valley), Songgu (Pine Valley) and the new developed project--Chimera scenic
Area. Among them, Chimera scenic area is very popular for the tourists now.

said on July 18th, 2005: I had stayed on Huangshan for three days. I
climbed on to the summits and I want to share some of my personal experience with
you: The key element of a successful Huangshan tour: The Itinerary. I
think I had followed a rather correct route throughout my self guided tour. First
of all enter the mountain area from the Front Mountain(Qian Shan). Pass Banshan
Temple and turn to the risky Tiandu Peak. Having reached the summit of the peak,
get down by Jiyubei and arrive at Greeting Pine(Yingkesong). Set off from here
to reach the highest Lianhua Peak, then climb down the peak to find lodgings in
Beihai Scenic Area. This itinerary takes about six or seven hours, first risky
and then relaxing. The next morning, get up early and watch sunrise.
Then walk west from Guangming Summit to Xihai(Menghuan Scenic Area). It takes
about four or five hours to have a good trip around Xihai. Then get back to Beihai
Scenic Area. Return to Guangming Summit and to Houhai. Leave at most three hours
for Huihai. Take a cable car to get down the mountain(the lastest cable car leaves
before 5pm) or walk down the mountain. I took two hours to walk down the mountain.
All the goods on the mountain are carried up by local
people. In Beihai, a big bottle of Coca Cola costs 13Y, a bottle of water 8Y.
In a word it is not so expensive to buy things on the mountain. That means you
do not have to carry too much things up by yourselves, or you would feel very
tired. A back-pack is much more useful than a handbag. These are all my personal
experiences. I hope it would bring you a more pleasant journey.
