Anhui Introduction

Anhui is an inland province in southeast China. Although it is one of eastern China's poorest provinces, it is rich in natural beauty. The Yangzi and Huai rivers cross through the province's low-lying areas and the frequent flooding of their banks are largely responsible for the province's poverty.

The north of the province is dry but the south is lush and mountainous. Two of China's most famous mountains, Huangshan and Jinhua Mountain are located here. The mountains of Huangshan are said to be among the most beautiful mountains in China, with lakes, hot springs, pine trees and unique rock formations. Jiuhua Mountain is a Buddhist Mountain and a place of pilgrimage containing a cluster of temples.

The capital city is Hefei. Numerous wars were fought for this strategic location. There is Archery Training Terrace, where Emperor Caocao trained his troops in using crossbows, and Temple to Lord Bao.
